Using Diagrams

Diagrams, such as the PBS, PFD, or Org Chart have been designed using the same user interface. This topic explains some of the key features of this interface.

Common Capabilities.

Zoom

The zoom menu controls the scaling of the diagram. There are two types of scaling: Numeric or FIT.

Numeric scaling: Use the Percentage number listed on the menu drop down list to fix the percentage to use.

Fit scaling: The picture will be automatically fit to the height or width of the screen area depending upon the setting

NOTE: Setting the zoom to Fit to Height or Fit to Width will also constrain the printing of a page to a single page. If numeric scaling is used, the diagram will be printed on as many pages as are required to cover the actual size of the drawing.

Grid

Show Grid: When enabled, Show the lines to help align the various objects on the diagram

Snap to Grid: When enabled, the object will be positioned to a point on the grid. The shapes may need to be resized to actually fit on the grid.

NOTE: Use Tools >> Options --> Diagrams TAB to set the Size and Style of the grid.

Format

Align to Left, Middle, Right. These buttons align the selected object to the left, middle or right of the child objects.

Size to widest or tallest: These buttons will size the children of the selected object to the tallest or widest.

Layout

Layout Now: Perform a layout pass now. Objects will be moved according to the object settings and layout rules.

NOTE:  If AutoLayout (Format Menu) is enabled, using Layout is not necessary. Autolayout can be set for the PBS, PFD and the Org chart.

Unique Capabilities

PBS

Two Rows: Position the products in two rows

Link to side or Link to Top: Align the child products horizontally or vertically

PFD

Move Unused: Move any products that are not linked into the flow to the right hand side of the diagram. This allows all products to be seen and then selected as needed. The order of the products is based upon the order in the Product checklist (product table).

Set Start Product Indicator: External products may or may not have an input link. All other products must have one or more input links and one or more output links. Setting the start product indicator allows the product to not require input links. The colour changes to a light reddish colour.

Org Chart

Two Rows: Position the products in two rows

Link to side or Link to Top: Align the child products horizontally or vertically
