Activity Types

To change the type of a activity, use the drop down list in the Activity Type column.

To see the information that describes the activity, select the ACT Tab in the Details Pane (next to the PFD).

Type Description
Project The top level activity for the project.  This activity generally rolls up all information to a single line.  Most of the information for the project brief can be captured for this activity.

This type allows entry of the following information:

  • Background
  • Project Objectives
  • Project Approach
  • Project Scope
  • Deliverables or Outcomes
  • Exclusions
  • Constraints
  • Interfaces
  • Assumptions
  • Prerequisites
  • External dependencies
  • Project Tolerances
Stage (Management) A stage within a project.  At a minimum, there is an Initiation Stage and at least one other stage.  This information summarises the work within the stage.  The stage information provides the basis for a stage plan.

This type allows entry of the following Information:

  • Objectives
  • Approach
  • Scope
  • Pre-requisites
  • External Dependencies
  • Assumptions
  • Stage Tolerance
Stage (Technical) A collection of related products and activities that generally deliver a technical set of products. Technical stages are typically within a management stage. These are described in the PRINCE2™ manual. These may relate to design or build iterations.

This type allows the same information as the Stage (Management) above.

Work Package A work package to be assigned to an individual or team manager.  This identifies the products that will be created by the team manager and the completion requirements for the work package.

This type allows entry of the following information:

  • Description
  • Allocated To
  • Techniques, processes and procedures
  • Interfaces
  • Constraints
  • Quality Requirements
  • Completion, Return, and Reporting
Create Product The identification of a specific product to be created.  This product is linked to the line in the Product Checklist.  The focus of this activity is performing configuration management activities to work on the product.  The details for this activity relate to the configuration item information.

This type allows entry of the following information:

  • Date Checked out
  • What / Why
  • Checked out to
  • Version
  • Date Checked In
Activity An activity is a package of work that can be used anywhere in the project activities list.  Typically the activities relate to the creation of a product.

This type allows entry of the following information:

  • Description
  • Allocated To
Quality Check A type of activity to check a product against the quality criteria.  The collection of these activities form the basis for the Quality Log.

This type allows entry of the following information:

  • Description
  • Allocated To
